Kyle Shea, DirectorMy name is Kyle Shea and I am a recent graduate of the Dodge College of Film and Media arts at Chapman University. I have been making films for almost 10 years. I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 2005, I moved to Orange, California to attend Chapman.

I first discovered my interest in film at the age of thirteen, shooting and editing action sports videos starring my friends and myself. As soon as I discovered the joy of Final Cut Pro, every school project, family gathering, or even boring Saturday afternoon became my next film. I produced, shot, and edited thirteen films throughout my high school years, one of which premiered at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, a music video entitled “The Ocean.”

While attending Chapman, I discovered my primary interest was directing. At the Dodge College I have directed nine short films: five simple storytelling exercises and four larger scale productions. What drives my passion for directing is the thrill of telling a story and captivating an audience. At this point, I enjoy making films that evoke the humor in life while still maintaining a sense of poignancy and meaning; films that carry a message through and beyond the comedy.

When I’m not making films, I might be traveling, playing sports, or shooting still photography. Traveling has always been an important part of my life. For as long as I can remember, I have been traveling the world with my family on our infamous “Shea Family Vacations.” In the spring of 2008 I was also fortunate enough to participate in the Semester At Sea program through Chapman. I traveled to eleven different countries and actually circumnavigated the globe — starting in Nassau, Bahamas and ending in Miami, Florida. My experience with different people and cultures has enabled me to become a better filmmaker, as a keen understanding of human life and interactions is vital to directing actors and telling a story.

Through traveling, my passion for still photography truly blossomed. Shooting photos has enabled me not only to gain a better knowledge of lenses and exposure but has also honed my skills in shot composition and camera placement. Both my photography and films can be viewed on this website. I hope you enjoy and thanks for taking the time…

Cheers,

Kyle Shea
